Fernando Torres Looking To Score Against Real Madrid Again
When Fernando Torres re-joined Atletico Madrid this year, he scored twice in his first competitive game against Real Madrid, who they face again tonight.
Ever since joining Chelsea four years ago, Fernando Torres has been a shadow of the devastating striker that he once was. Since January 2011, he had only scored 46 goals in 182 matches for Chelsea and AC Milan.
But when he moved to the club that he played for as a teenager, you could see that Torres was happy to be back at the club where it all began. In fact, it took him mere seconds to score against one of the best teams in the world, Real Madrid, during his second game back at the club. Torres went on to score a second goal in the opening moments of the second half as well to earn his team a valuable draw away from home in the Copa Del Rey. His match winning performance followed up his initial solid showing against Carlo Ancelotti’s men in the firstleg, a 2-0 win at the Vicente Calderon, while he also scored against Barcelona in Atletico's 3-2 semi-final loss at the Vicente Calderon.
Torres has yet to score in La Liga this season, however, and some may question whether he will be able to continuously perform in the manner that is required of him in the league format. A potential title-deciding match against Real Madrid tonight provides the perfect platform for the Spaniard to prove any of his doubters wrong and cause a huge upset against his team’s City rivals.
