The Italian's girlfriend hit out at his treatment by the club, but Carver says the truth behind his exit is far more straightforward
Newcastle boss John Carver has played down talk of a rift with Davide Santon, insisting the defender wasn't playing because other players were in better form.
The Italian left St James’ Park under a cloud last week, with his girlfriend claiming he had been "pushed out" of the club.
But the Toon head coach says the form of Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara is the main reason why Santon’s loan move to Inter Milan was sanctioned, report the Chronicle.
Carver said: “He’s not featured all season – he’d had a problem with his knee.
“Paul Dummett and Saido Haidara are two guys at left-back in particular who have done really well.
“He was finding it a problem to get in the team.
