Didier Drogba Beats Yaya Toure To Best Ever African In English Premier League
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has beaten Yaya Toure to being named the best ever African Player to have played in the Premier League.
The 36-year-old, who is in his second stint at Stamford Bridge, leads a survey conducted by Opta analysing Africans to have played in England’s top flight.
Drogba has scored 163 goals in 368 games at Stamford Bridge, winning 12 trophies during his first spell in England.
The retired Ivory Coast international has beaten his former national teammate, Yaya Toure, to the coveted award, with Nigerian Yakubu Aiyegbeni coming in third place.
Drogba leads the Premier League goal-scoring charts with 103 goals as well as the assist rankings with 55 goals set up.
Second-placed Yaya Toure has scored 48 goals and assisted a further 25 since his move to from FC Barcelona to Manchester City in 2010.
Toure’s role in City’s five trophies since 2010 have given him the nod ahead of third-placed Yakubu.
The Nigerian has scored 95 goals and assisted a further 29 during his spells at Blackburn Rovers, Everton, Leicester City, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth.
