Bayern Drop Points At Home

Default German Bundesliga
Result: Bayern 1-1 Schalke
Date: 3 February 2015
Venue: Allianz Arena
Bayern Munich were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Schalke in their Bundesliga clash on Tuesday night.

The Bavarians were dealt a hefty blow in the 17th minute as they went down to ten men and conceded a penalty in the process. Sidney Sam beat Jerome Boateng for pace and went down in the area as the Bayern man brought him down clumsily, earning him a straight red card.

However, Choupo-Moting's spot-kick was poor. It lacked venom and in the end was a simple save for Manuel Neuer between the sticks.

Arjen Robben was a thorn in Schalke's side on the night and came close to opening the scoring for Bayern in the 38th minute. The Dutchman cut inside past two defenders before curling a shot at the far corner of the goal, but the effort went just wide.

Shortly after a goal was disallowed for Bayern, the hosts netted the opener. In the 67th minute Robben headed home Alonso's corner-kick via a deflection off Choupo-Moting.

Unfortunately for the Bavarians they were back on level terms with Schalke five minutes after taking the lead. Once again the breakthrough came from a corner as Benedikt Höwedes converted with a super header.

Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt drew 1-1 with Wolfsburg as Stefan Aigner (58') and Kevin de Bruyne (88') negated each others' strikes.

Patrick Herrmann's solitary strike in the 23rd minute led Borussia Monchengladbach to a 1-0 win over Freiburg.

Hannover 96 shared the spoils with Mainz as they drew 1-1. Jimmy Briand put the hosts ahead before an equaliser from Elkin Soto.
